Job Description

About the Role

Southern Rural Water is currently seeking an asset and people focused individual with an aptitude for mechanical and automated systems to join our Water Supply East team as a Senior Technical Officer.

As the Senior Technical Officer, you will be responsible for coordinating daily activities and overseeing the performance of Technical Officers to ensure our automated water supply systems are operating efficiently and reliably whilst driving our new ways of working with Asset data retention.

You will play a key role in the development, programming and scheduling of routine and cyclic maintenance activities, while contributing to long term planning for the future needs of Southern Rural Water’s automated infrastructure.

As the subject matter expert in technical automation, you will provide essential support across both the Water Supply East and West teams and be the primary point of contact for the integration of new works in the districts systems.

This position offers the opportunity to step into a role where your technical skills and proactive approach will help drive continuous improvement. You will be part of a supportive and skilled team, working towards innovative solutions and practical problem solving.

As the Senior Technical Officer, some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain and monitor automation systems, to ensure that the automated and SCADA controlled equipment is operating to meet business expectations.
  • Act as the subject matter expert in technical automation providing support to the irrigation districts in Water Supply East and West.
  • Plan, schedule and prioritise work activities of self and a small work group.
  • Lead the activities of a small group of employees/contractors.
  • Liaise with Planning, Delivery and Maintenance staff, to ensure automated systems performance target levels are met.

About you

The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate some of the desired experience and abilities below:

  • A desire to lead new ways of working with data driven decisions and capture. 
  • A collaborative approach with the ability to mentor and support a small team in system operations and technical tasks.
  • Mechanical aptitude and an ability to operate a broad range of tools, plant and equipment.
  • Knowledge and skills associated with the operation and maintenance of automated infrastructure, including SCADA controlled equipment.
  • Skills in operating water delivery systems, including automated delivery systems is desirable.
