About the Role
Southern Rural Water is currently seeking a Multi Skilled Storage Operator (MSSO) to join our Headworks team. If you have a strong mechanical aptitude, a hands on approach, and a high level of attention to detail, this could be the perfect role for you!
The Headworks team is central to SRW’s Dam Safety Program, implementing monitoring and surveillance activities in accordance with the Australian National Committee on Large Dams (ANCOLD) guidelines. As part of this role, you will conduct inspections, monitor dam performance, and contribute to the ongoing maintenance and safe operations of SRW dam assets.
The MSSO will play a critical role in incident management, responding to incidents at SRW’s headworks sites, particularly, the routing of floods through the assets.
We are looking for a team player who thrives in a collaborative environment and contributes to a positive, safety focused workplace culture. In this role, you will work both autonomously and as part of a team to support the ongoing safety, efficiency, and integrity of SRW’s assets.
As the MSSO, some of your responsibilities will include:
- Maintain the safe operation and management of all SRW Headwork structures, including the operation of the various gated structures, inlet and outlet valves, SCADA and other power and control systems.
- Undertake visual inspections and monitoring of dam assets as set out in SRWs Visual Inspection Regime.
- Contributing to incident management and emergency response activities, including the routing of floods and other events at SRW structures.
- Participate in standby duties, which may include responding to calls and alarms, managing enquiries related to headworks assets, setting critical water flows, and reporting emergency trigger points.
- Operating assets safely and effectively in line with SRW’s operational procedures, guidelines, and directives.
About you
The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate some of the desired experience and abilities below:
- A trade qualification, mechanical skills and/or a certificate in Water Resource Management would be high desirable.
- Experience operating and maintaining mechanical equipment, as well as performing general maintenance and groundskeeping duties such as mowing and spraying.
- Strong communication and problem solving skills, with the ability to respond effectively to operational challenges and work collaboratively with colleagues.
- A self motivated and proactive approach, demonstrating SRW’s values of Always Safe, Accountable, One Team and Legacy.
- A commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and safety focused workplace culture.
Training in industry specific equipment and processes will be provided to help you succeed.
