About the Role

Southern Rural Water is currently seeking an experienced Team Leader Financial Accounting (TLFA) to lead a team of finance professionals to drive the delivery of finance services.

This is a newly created two year role offering an excellent opportunity to provide expert financial leadership, ensure compliance with reporting and regulatory obligations, and embed best practice across the organisation.

As the TLFA, you will be responsible for a breadth of finance functions, including financial compliance and reporting, statutory accounts and reconciliations, taxation requirements, management accounting with budgeting and forecasting, as well as payroll and superannuation processing and reporting.

You will play a key role in shaping a collaborative, high performing team culture that values growth, accountability and shared success. With a strong focus on continuous improvement, you will champion consistency and excellence in financial processes, ensuring SRW maintains robust and effective financial management practices.

As the Team Leader Financial Accounting, some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing monthly financial information, including maintaining a complete and accurate general ledger and associated account reconciliations.
  • Overseeing the preparation of annual statutory accounts, including producing a comprehensive year-end file for external audit that reconciles with the trial balance and financial statements.
  • Coordinating the month-end process and other regular financial activities, such as the allocation of shared costs and management of asset transactions.
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring financial policies, procedures and controls to ensure SRW meets its financial management obligations under government Standing Directions.
  • Prepare financial reports and analysis to support the General Manager, Finance, Safety and Risk, along with other ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis as required.

About you

The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate some of the desired experience and abilities below:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting is required.
  • Experience leading and developing finance teams, with a focus on mentoring, coaching and driving process improvements.
  • Experience with establishing, implementing and maintaining effective financial management processes, ideally within a government, regulatory or comparable environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Expert judgement and analytical skills to reason through complex problems and develop strategic and robust interventions and solutions.
